Gas Prices: Go Ahead. Hate Me. (I give you permission.)
May 26th, 2006 | by Molly's Brother |I took a walk to get an Starbuck’s Frapucino today. I hadn’t actually stepped inside a Starbucks for about four months and with the Southern California temperatures in the mid-80s today, I thought it would be a good day to kick off summer. You see, for me my official start to the summer season has been my first purchase and consumption of a frapuccino. Anyway, I was walking down to the corner store with my boss and a Hummer passed us heading towards Hollywood Blvd. and the conversation quickly turned to cars and gas prices. She mentioned how it cost her $50 to fill up her late-90s model Toyota Camry.
Yeesh.
The whole “increase in the cost of gas” psuedo-crisis has really bypassed me directly (at least for the time being). I’ve read about it. I’ve been following it in the news. But the financial implications have not affected my bank account like it has for others because for the first time in my life, I live less than a five-minute drive to work. On an good day, my entire round-trip commute could take six minutes.
I fill up my gas tank once every two-to-three weeks.
I know. I know.
I hate me, too.
