Half.com
By Molly's Brother | August 28, 2006
I’ve never really been motivated to list my books on half.com, primarily because I don’t think $0.75 for a four year old paperback is really worth my time and effort: I have to list it, I have to wait for it to be purchased, I have to schlep down to the post office and mail it off. Sigh.
I have a couple of hardcovers and paperbacks that I can actually re-sell for above $5. So, I’ve decided to declutter my life and start to unload my books. I have 12 books listed right now. I’ll keep you updated as to how my experience went.
Selling your things is a great way to eliminate your credit card debt or build your savings, but we’ll see if it was worth the time, energy, and effort.

I always find that things sell much faster on the Amazon marketplace, but the commission over there is absolutely killer ($1.20 + 10% on books). If you are really patient there are a few lesser know sites with lower commission than half.com without the same level of interest.

Since I have just begun trying to sell books on half.com I’d love to hear what the lesser known sites are.
The commission is a killer though. That’s why I didn’t sell anything on Amazon. Yet.

There is a big thread over on FatWallet… though it mostly pertains to buying books there is some information on where to sell there too.

[…] I promised I’d provide an update to everyone on my Half.com experience. Well, on Monday, I listed a total of 44 books. As of six o’clock today, I’ve made 16 sales with a grand total of just over $50. (Trust me when I say that the employees of the West Hollywood US Post Office were none too happy to see me walk in at 5:59 PM with two paper bags filled with 16 manilla envelopes.) […]
