ING vs. HSBC vs. Emigrant vs….
By Molly's Brother | August 30, 2006
Great post over at Then Things. She has a rant about Emigrant’s process of transferring money into her savings account. I’ve been looking for some useful feedback from others around the blogosphere regarding their online high-yield savings account.
Even though it comes in with a lower APY than Emigrant or HSBC, I’m still a fan of INGDirect because it is so incredibly user-friendly.
Anyone with other ING, HSBC, Emigrant feedback? I would love to hear it.

I have accounts at all 3. ING has by far the best website, Emigrant has the worst, and HSBC is somewhere in the middle. I used HSBC because:
a) their rate is 5.05% while ING is 4.35%
b) there is a local branch a few minutes away from my house, so during an emergency I can withdraw funds immediatly there instead of waiting 3 days for the funds to ACH to a checking account
c) I have everything in Yodlee anyways so I only have to use the web interface if I actually want to make a transfer.

Glad I was able to give you some information! Of course the irony is that opening an account at HSBC would be even more steps to go through so I stick with emigrant.

Chuck and Laura–
Thanks for your feedback. I’m sure it’s going to help inform others when making their online banking decisions. I’ve been looking for this type of information online.
Thanks,

I have ING. It’s a very nice website, but yes, it does take about 3 days for the ACH. However, I did that on PURPOSE. ING is my emergency money account- and by the end of the three days, I may have decided that it’s not an emergency anymore and I send it back without using it. I’ve done that twice
