Identity Theft: UCLA Data Breach Worst of Its Kind

Los Angeles media organizations are buzzing today with news that a data breach occurred at UCLA. It is possibly the “worst of its kind,” the The Los Angeles Times reports. The attack on the University’s database lasted for over a year and was only discovered within the last few weeks. Over 800,000 individuals–students, alumni, staff, and many others–may be at risk. The hackers accessed a database that had social security numbers, names, addresses, and other identifying information.

I know many of you aren’t connected to UCLA, but 800,000 people is a sizeable amount. If you have any connection to the University, you might want to visit www.identityalert.ucla.edu or contact them via phone at (877) 533-8082.
