Father’s Day Gifts On A Budget

June 6th, 2007 | by Molly's Brother |

In May, thousands of sons and daughters around the country put thought into the gifts that they’re going to give mom. They send flowers. They send cards. They write notes. dads, I think, get the short end of the stick when it comes to holidays and celebrations in this country. Dad’s Day is a much more relaxed event. BBQs and ball games. But dad did his parenting work, too. Shouldn’t you shower him with the same level of emotional and material appreciation that you give your mother?

PLAN AHEAD

As with all gifts, they can tend to stretch–and sometimes break–the budget. That’s why I say that you should “plan ahead.” Develop of system of putting money away each week or each month and saving it for gifts. This is especially helpful when the big Christmas gift giving extravaganza comes around.

USE ONLINE RESOURCES

Thoughtful gifts always seem to be expensive. But they don’t have to be if you know the right places to look. I have become a bigger and bigger fan of Amazon’s deals. Not only do they seem to have great deals for every occassion–and great deals for Father’s Day–but they also provide you with great gift options for any budget. I also think that Overstock has great deals, too. But I usually find that Overstock is pretty to fill any household needs I have. However, according to the O, Overstock has the best gifts for Dad!. Good luck in finding great deals.

ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE

And, let’s be honest. If you can’t be there in person, you can always send food. Or, more precisely, steak. What man doesn’t like a nice T-Bone? (I know, I know. A vegeterian/vegan doesn’t. But I think they’re lyin’.)

At the very least, don’t forget dad. Stamps are cheap. Send a card. Phone calls are free on the weekends with your cell phone. So don’t forget to call.

Final reminder: Father’s Day is June 17.
