INGDirect: Rant

December 5th, 2007 | by Molly's Brother |

If you have followed this blog for any amount of time, you know that I am a huge–and happy–fan of INGDirect.com Lately, however, every time I log into my account to check my balance or bask in the glow of how much interest I have made, I get seriously peeved by something so simple.

This isn’t something that is unique to ING. All the banks do it. INGDirect, though, seems to have a heightened sense of customer service. As a consumer, I feel as though I matter to them. (Yes, I feel as though I matter to a multinational corporation who has done little for me beyond executing a very successful advertising campaign, invoking the use of the color orange, and being responsive to telephone inquiries. Sigh. I know. It sounds ridiculous.)

Here’s my complaint: I have ING Electric Orange. It’s their checking account (as of this writing, 3.25% APY). As a matter of practice, they tally up your account balance and add your overdraft protection to it, giving you a total. They call this your “Spending Power.” Ugh. And by “spending power” they mean that they will offer a couple of hundred of dollars in overdraft protection…but if you actually end up using it, they’ll charge you an astronomical amount in interest.

I am peeved by it not as it relates to me. But I worry about The Others. You know, The Others who have not yet discovered MollysBrother.com. The Others who think that overdraft protection is a convenience. The Others who end up not only keeping banks in business, but making them rich.

Maybe I shouldn’t worry so much about The Others…but I do.

End of rant. Back to loving INGDirect.com 24/7.

LOL. When I read this, I was served up an ING ad for 4.2% right underneath your rant.

Hysterical. I was trying something new with ads. Sigh. I can’t believe that it was there even as I am complaining about the company.

    LOL. God bless keywords!!
