Sigh. I’ve gone green.
June 12th, 2008 | by Molly's Brother |I have never been too much of an environmentalist. I like the outdoors and have spent my childhood and early adult years camping, hiking, and fishing. I have always had a profound respect for the outdoors and have considered ourselves to be stewards of the planet. But, to me, environmentalists border on the offensive side with their intent to “educate” us all to save the planet.
However, I must admit that, today, I have officially “gone green.” I know that this is the new buzzword of the year. Everyone is going green and it seems like nobody can be green enough. I’m finding that there is often an financial benefit to deciding to “go green.”
Here are some ways that I have decided to go green (and the economic benefit):
- I am refilling a durable water bottle throughout the day ($12.00/month)
- I am taking the bus to the local nightclubs (Saving $60.00/month on parking, even considering the $1.25 bus fare. Financial impact on fuel savings: unknown)
- Conserving everything–I am conserving water, gas, and turning off lights. (Unknown)
Right now, I am looking at a substantial savings of about $750/year in these costs alone. If you have read this blog, you know that I am an advocate of taking the money that you are not spending and transferring it to you savings account immediately. So that $60/month on parking does not go to some other expense. It goes straight to ING.
